It Was a Celebration Indeed

Everyone agrees that it was a great day. The service was uplifting. The table fellowship was wonderful. Food was plentiful. All had a good time. On Sunday, 24th November one hundred and twenty-seven people gathered for a celebratory service at Bethesda. It was the festival of Christ the King. Bishop Michael Pryse was the preacher and special guest of the day.

It was a day filled with many events. During the service the steeple and bell were dedicated. The steeple was erected around Easter of this year. The bell was installed only a couple weeks ago. Wilhelm von Seefried was instrumental in acquiring and having the bell installed. It was a wonderful feeling to hear the bell rising during the service. The ringing of the bell at Bethesda is a new sound in the neighbourhood. Thank you Wilhelm and Roswitha for this new addition to Bethesda.

The service was also a celebration of Pastor Roy’s fifth year as pastor at Bethesda. Pastor Roy and Alice came to Bethesda five years ago directly from Guyana. The congregation presented Pastor Roy and Alice with an extremely generous gift for which they expressed deep gratitude and genuine astonishment.

The service was followed by a pot-luck lunch (finger food). During the meal, the quilting group drew their raffle. The prize was a quilt. Floris Dawson was the winner. Bishop Pryse made the draw. The quilting group also presented a beautiful Christmas quilt to Wilhelm von Seefried for his generous contributions of batting to their group.

The Sunday Church School was not to be left out. The children used the day to launch their mission outreach programme. They are raising funds to support the Philippines relief effort and the CLWR.s “Gift from the Heart” project. This would be the second year running they are doing this project. Last year they raised more than seven hundred dollars through collecting and selling bottles, offerings collected and other means.

All in all it was a wonderful day of worship and fellowship.
