Bethesda’s Annual Sharecropper Dinner is on Sunday, November 13 at 5:30 pm. The dinner is part of our social calendar. However, it is more than this. Through this dinner the congregation raises funds toward its outreach programme. This particular outreach programme provides food for people in parts of the world where hunger is a real and stark reality. As we say of this dinner, “We eat so that others might eat too”. The congregation has been actively involved in this programme for many years now. Funds for this outreach are raised in various ways. One of the major activities through which funds are raised is the cultivation of crops by the Schickedanz family on a plot of fifty acres. Profits from the crops, after expenses are deducted, go to the fund. Another major contributor to the fund is St. John United Church of Oakville. This congregation has contributed $8,000-$10,000 annually to the fund. In addition to these, contributions come from friends, members and, of course, our dinner. Whatever amounts Bethesda raises from these various sources, the Government of Canada multiplies them by four times, thereby increasing the impact of what we do.
Over the years Bethesda has contributed an average of at least $30,000 annually to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank through the Sharecropper Programme. Your presence at the dinner and generosity help make this possible.
As usual, envelops will be available at the dinner for people to make their free-will contribution.
The menu for the evening will be roast beef, mashed potatoes, vegetables and salad. We ask that you please bring a dessert to share.
