Bethesda Garage Sale A Success

Categories: Events

The Garage Sale ad-hoc committee held a successful garage sale on Saturday, 4th June. As has become the practice the sale was held to coincide with the Unionville Festival. This allows the event to capitalize on the many people who pass by on their way to the Festival.

The committee planned, organized and executed the sale with an efficiency that comes from experience, team work and dedication. The committee consisted of Alice Thakurdyal who spearheaded the event, Bonnie Hendrickson, Brenda Dawson, Roswitha von Seefried, Diane Keiper, Linda Mckinney, Carmen and Harold Chung, Ilona Lattner, Gail Clarkson, Marike Kukla.

The committee started advertising the sale early in the year but started collecting articles in May.  They then set about sorting, categorizing and pricing the articles periodically. On the Friday evening before the sale they organized to have the car park set up with tables and even laid out some items.  On the day of the sale people came as early as 6.00 am to display the articles. Customers came in as early as  7.00 am.

The quilting group used the opportunity to put one of their beautiful quilts up for raffle. Tickets are still on sale and can be purchased from Marike and Carmen for a cost of one ticket for $5.00 or 3 for $10.00. The raffle will be drawn on July 24.

The funds raised so far from the sale is $3,150.00. In the previous garage sales the committee raised $1825.00 and $3,615.00 in 2012 and 2014 respectively. This means that the committee has raised a total of $8,590.00 through their efforts in the past three years. The monies raised go towards the church maintenance fund.

The committee wishes to thank everyone who worked with much dedication towards the making of yet another successful garage sale. They also wish to thank all the members and other people who donated items.
