New Life

Categories: Pastor's Page

Spring is associated with new life. After the long, cold, grey sleep of winter, everything springs to life again. Bird could be heard early in the morning welcoming the new day, with their concerts of sweet and varies melodies. The grass is quickly exchanging their brown appearance for green. And of course flowers are beginning to bloom, even if seemingly shyly, in the many colours, shapes, sizes and fragrance. Not to be outdone, the animals large and small leave then winter abodes and join their human counterparts in the sun-bathed albeit cold outdoors.

On April 5, being Easter we celebrated the springing forth of new life in a more joyful, hope-filled and wonderful way. Easter is the celebration of new life springing forth from the grave. On this day Christ was raised from the dead by the power of God. In this mighty, mysterious act God signals to all His promise and purpose for all – New Life in the here and now, and eternal life beyond this life.

Death is the inescapable end of all. Death seems to make a mockery of life. For after all no matter who we are, what we have, how great we made ourselves, everyone must answer this call when it comes. It’s absolute finality and total annihilation of being makes death a fearful thing. The Resurrection is God’s promise that death does not have the final word over us. God has conquered death in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He is the first fruit of the resurrection. A sure sign and promise that all those who live and die in Christ will also be raised on the last day. In light of this promise and hope we can, with St. Paul declare:-
Where O death is your victory?
Where O death is your sting?

Thanks be to God! He gives us this victory our Lord Jesus Christ
(1 Corinthians 15:55, 57).

Spring is a song of life re-appearing after the long winter sleep. Easter is a celebration of life, life over death, abundant life and eternal life. Let us celebrate life by living in the Hope of the resurrection.

HAPPY EASTER.
